Bristol Conditions

Why not the facility in Lake Placid?
Folks are scheduled for a World Cup there Jan 11&12.

If they’re short on pond water, they coulda used the water used for the big jump to instead make snow on trails.

Hopefully they get some goodwill for their helping hand.

Maybe ORDA will throw them a bone. Might even be a first for a non-Hudson watershed bump. I think McCauley got an old lift though.

Skied today with my oldest granddaughter-15 and an excellent skier. Good news on three fronts: First-Comet and Southern Cross were open which means more trails top to bottom with the Sunset connection. Second-they got between 2-4" or so of fresh snow. Made for bumped up conditions as the day wore on, but will certainly help the surface for the next few days. Third-pond level is up with a good amount of water flowing in. They should be set for the next round of snowmaking weather to get more stuff open.

Oh yeah..........conditions! Big contrast with yesterday. Fresh snow made for a nice surface and the mini moguls provided entertaining runs vs. the flat groomed stuff we've had. For the first day, Comet and Southern Cross were nice-no marbles and the fresh snow helped with the icy spots. Crowds weren't bad-I think the fresh snow tired a lot of people out quickly. Even strong skiers were taking a quick break halfway down. Very encouraging for the Christmas/New Years weeks.

I skied today with my wife-our oldest granddaughter was supposed to join us, but no response at her house, so we continued on our way. Got there a little after 9:00-surprisingly uncrowded for the day after Christmas. Fairly icy with the warmer temps yesterday and well below freezing today. Great news! They are making snow on Upper Galaxy, Lower Galaxy. Lower Meteor and Milky Way! Started to get more crowded, so we decided we'd had enough for the day. When we left around 12:45 the snow was really starting to come down, so it should be a good start to the Christmas/New Years week and a half. Slow drive back to Rochester and it's snowing hard here.

Quick trip to Bristol this morning as we had to drop my wife's new skis off at Ski Company to be mounted. Got on the hill around 8:40 or so. Conditions were decent, although foggy with freezing mist made a Ski Gee an important part of today's equipment (I'm always surprised at long time skiers who don't know about these). Rocket was good the first time down, but got crunchy and marbley fast. We were all set for a last run-came down to the chair and lines had formed. Time to quit! Main parking lot was full when we left and the aux parking had a lot of cars. Good for the resort, but no need to dodge people on the few open slopes. Guns were running and the pond had water, so there should be more terrain soon.
