Bristol Conditions

First day today at Bristol. Upper/Lower Rocket. They blew snow Wed to renew the surface and it wasn't too bad. Probably got on the slope about 10:45 after seeing friends in the locker room. Not bad-small moguls but edgeable with some slick spots. Crowds had mostly disappeared by the time I got there, so it was pretty smooth sailing. Did about 10 runs and quit to ski another day. Perfect blue skies! Unfortunately, doesn't look good for the next couple of weeks to make snow, and the weekend will be crazy there with one trail.................

Bristol is closed today for snowmaking, but they plan on opening tomorrow at 9:00. Looks like we will have Upper/Lower Rocket and the loop. I plan on going and will do a report after that.

Thanks Johnny.

Have you ever seen it this bad this late in season? I've only been paying attention to snow conditions for about ~18 years when I started skiing. Back 10-15 years ago it was never a question that I recall most all trails wouldn't be open for the holiday period.

This has got to be killing them financially.

I think they're being smart by not being open during the week with the limited terrain. When it will really hurt is next week when kids and people are off. Our grandkids often do the Christmas camps and so far nothing on them-hard to do with so little open. Yes, it's been a while since it's been good until January...........

Checked the website and only Upper/Lower Rocket open, so with the gray skies, I passed. I must be getting old...........
Hopefully the loop tomorrow and then I'll go.

Made it down today and did about 9-10 runs. Still only Upper/Lower Rocket, but they were making snow on the loop and the connector to Upper Galaxy. Conditions were fair-crunchy and somewhat icy, although as the sun came out it was better because you could see. Still, pretty depressing for later December although they are doing all they can to get more terrain open.

Let me preface this report by saying Bristol is doing all they can to stay open and blow snow. The warm temps and rain have done their best to make this one of the worst starts in memory. So far this winter has been a turd and we all know they can't be polished................

Skied Christmas Eve and it wasn't too bad with the loop and Shooting Star open. Today..............Upper/Lower Rocket, Sunbelt and Shooting Star+ the connectors. Not good at all-yes' it's skiing, but crusty snow with icy areas and too many skiers for the limited terrain. Did four runs and called it-just not fun.

Sure glad I've got my Y membership otherwise I'd be going crazy! Think cold and snow!!!!

Progress, even small, is progress. Loop reopened today around noon or so and Lower Rocket was resurfaced so the gravel has been covered over. Snowmaking on Comet, Morningstar, Nova, the connector to Galaxy and a bit on Lower Meteor. Snow wasn't too bad considering...............Hope we get some of that big storm that is supposed to hit east-it would certainly help out along with continuing cold temps. I'll skip tomorrow-it'll be a zoo, but may go Sunday and will go Monday. We're supposed to have a beer league race on Tuesday but not sure where it could possibly be held.

There was a guy in the locker room complaining about the guns "Why can't they just run them at night?".Sheesh........

Go Bills!!!

The weekend snow helped things on the open terrain. Some of the nicest conditions of the year (although a very low bar!) Obviously no new terrain with the current weather, but looks better for next week. Surprised at how many people were there on a Monday-doesn't anybody work or go to school anymore? :)

Surprisingly good day today at Bristol. Almost didn't go, but decided the hell with it and went. Sun came out and the snow was decent on the very few open trails. Got there late, which seems to be a good strategy when the terrain is limited as it clears out mid morning. Looking at good snowmaking temps in the next day or so-winter may finally be here and they can complete the job on the slopes they have started on. I'll pass on tomorrow, but may try Sunday morning before the Bills game.

Nice sunny day today and the crowds weren't too bad for a vacation day. Comet is open and they are blowing snow on Morningstar. Apparently there is an electrical grid problem-they closed down early last night and they can't run the chairs and the snowmaking to full capacity. Too bad as this is prime weather for making snow! Conditions were decent-Comet was somewhat marbley as usually happens with the first grooming of new manmade, but the rest of the open trails were ok although they started to get skied off. Just a frustrating year...............no fault of management.
