Bring the Stoke

Does it rain in Flagstaff in the winter? Looks like you might have another stormy one ?
It can rain in the winter. Some of the best storms are rain in town with snow levels hanging in between 8-8800 or so feet. Those storms keep the kids and staff in school for the day and a lot of people see rain and stay home. We can also get really warm systems during ElNino years where it rains to the roof or the highest point on the mountain. Those haven’t been too plentiful during my 22 years there. They definitely can make for some interesting snow pack layers.

I've come to the realization that, while this is an exciting time of year once ski resorts start making snow and announcing opening dates, that it is a generally uninspiring time until that happens. Now is the second one. Hopefully that changes next week.

This snow report is 27" above what it would take for RonKon to ski it.

Wow, that's a big October storm. NOAA's long term forecast for the Tetons is El Nino and below average precipitation for the winter. That's a lot of snow that's going to stay for the winter up on the high north faces. It's likely going to give TV ski patrol a stressful PWL to manage for quite a while.
