Black Fly Season

The first hatches of black flies are the males, and they have tendency to bother you but not bite. When the females come out, the head net comes out! ;)

Showed this thread to a friend who came by to visit and used to live in Piseco. He said don't forget the no-see-ums that come out at night and fit through a screen.

Interesting that it’s the females that are the blood suckers, how odd is that?

Not quite Chestertown but spent the first week in June in the moose river plains twice... Never again... They actually have a black fly bike race. Guess the idea is to outrun the black flies?
Definitely a good motivator to pedal hard.

one of my most favorite aspects of living in the four corners region is the lack of annoying, flying critters. If you love the outdoors the overall quality of life here is astounding.
Dry climate, like any climate, has upsides and down.

I like the flowing water, trees, green and rounded mountains of the east. One upside of the flatlander life is that when the bugs are bad in the mountains, it's probably the most beautiful time to be down here. Be interesting to see how it goes for us (especially the Mrs) when we move up.
