Yeah, it’s the return of BS conditions. I am under a new screen name but the same old fat ass I have always been. It has been quite a while since I posted here. I lurk here but had problems registering. Thanks Harvey!
The skiing here this season is some of the worst I’ve ever seen. No early snow followed by no snow on a bad snowpack. February has been OK but without the early snowfall it blew away. Yesterday was warm and windy ( 80 mph ) but we were supposed to get 2 - 4” last night. We got an inch and a half. So I am still home writing on a NY ski blog.
The ikon pass sucks for BS locals. Maybe the resort is making money. The tram line is at least an hour and on some days people waited 3 hours. I want to blame ikon but Bozeman has grown out of control and most of the tram line has a season pass and a pack, big skis and avy bags. They only allow 10 per car but ski school goes up every car so that only 5-7 public gets on. The patrol goes up every half hour in their own car so there goes 2 cabins per hour. The new normal. BS says they’re going to replace the tram with a 60 - 80 person tram, restaurant up top and we can be like Vail.
It’s good to be back bitching. This is not the season to come out for a tour like some of you have.

What up Dirt Bag!! Welcome back. Had a trip planned out there this winter but COVID foiled it. Will be out next year.

Happens all the time, we used to call that the “angry inch”. I’m sorry to hear about the lack of snow. That’s never fun. I’d say go take a hike but that could be deadly. When it got bad like that I’d go cross country at Lone Mountain Ranch or Yellowstone Park. Standing in the tram line? No thanks. I’d rather spend my time hiking Bone Crusher just for the views or have some fun in the sun on the rollers of Southern Comfort. Skiing groomers can get boring after a while, but for me, maching down Elk Park never got old.

This would be a giant mistake IMO. They destroyed that iconic peak putting in the tin can. A larger tram might reduce the line for a little bit but the downhill experience will suffer immensely. Icy zig-zag traverses to moguls anyone? A restaurant up there? WTF? Everett’s on top of Andesite is all that’s necessary and I think it has better views anyway.

I couldn’t agree more. They’ll all be gone though eventually and when the late Spring snow hits you’ll have the mountain all to yourself. Long live the BS dirt bags!

Yo Dirt Bag!!! Good to hear from ya again.

How was you hunting season?
I went deer hunting for a couple days in November. The first day I had small deer walking right into me and the next day nothing. The weather didn’t work for Elk hunting. Outfitters have bought up all the access to pheasant hunting. It costs about $200-250 per gun to hunt birds. Same with ND, SD.

When the Spring Snow shows up so does everyone who owns skis or snowboards. BS sells an April pass for $120. Even before this ikon/ COVID thing happened it is stupid crowded here in the Spring.
The backcountry is killing people faster than Covid.

Money ruins everything when it comes to hunting. Sorry to hear that.
