Arizona Snowbowl $$$

If we are just speaking strictly in terms of the situation in Sedona where the state minimum wage is $14.35/hour and assume that is a comparable rate that a service industry worker is making in Sedona we are talking an apartment that rents for around $850-$900/month.

Have at it if you want but personally I don't think there is anything controversial about having opportunities for low income individuals to have housing that doesn't exceed 30% of their income.
Nah, you took my comment, or I think you did, wrong. I was curious what *affordable* might be in Sedona as I haven't a clue. That said, housing is certainly out of control seemingly everywhere. Where I live, in CNY, I consider it to be affordable, but even housing is still crazy. I'm SO happy I have my little Aframe to live in. I couldn't even imagine buying a house right now. A person can still find a house around here for under 200K, but you'd better be handy, or have some cash to pay people to fix it up for you.

So yes, I agree that affordable housing is an issue.

When I was ski bumming in VT I split/stacked wood for my rent. I highly doubt something like that is even a possibility anymore. That said, the place was a real shithole! LoL

After JD put up the article, looked at Zillow for rents & homes in Sedona.
Cheapest was $1.35K/month for a 0 bedroom 360 sq ft studio,
while a mobile home in a +55 community could be had for $150K (after a >20K "price reduction”).
Maybe folks can also camp overnight on the gondola cabins at the Snowbowl.

Something has got to give, I'm not sure what or when but I do feel like affordable housing is an issue with the capability to transcend political differences. It is affecting all communities from tourist towns to big cities with lots of industry and quiet suburbs alike. I've personally been priced out of the community I was born and raised in so these conversations seem to get a bit touchy for me, so I am sorry for any misinterpretation of your comments camp. Here in Jersey just today a new affordable housing was signed by the governor that could set a precedent for other states to follow, it just seems like a day late and dollar short. According to experts Jersey lacks 200,000 housing units for low to moderate income families, that deficit is pretty apparent when you have homes going for as much as $330,000 over ask.

The situation in Sedona is like trying to seal a hole in a water tower with duct tape. Here is a parking lot for you to live out of your Subaru in, catch is you've got to show proof of employment. There simply aren't enough trust fund kids with sprinter vans to keep restaurants and coffee shops staffed in these ski and tourist towns.

I've lived here in CNY for most of my adult life. The biggest issue that I've seen is single family homes being turned into rental properties. To me, that's a big issue. Honestly, I could show you countless properties, that not long ago, where beautiful single family homes. Well taken care of and maintained. In 10ish years these houses are in shambles. I wouldn't even want to go in them, and it's quite obvious neither do the landlords.

There too is an issue. I wouldn't have any issues living in a mobile home. Too many folks have to have their monster houses.

Lived in one for a year or so in Oxford, MS a buddy & his dad bought.
The Wheels Estates is now The Country Country Club of Oxford.
There were mudslides from the hill behind it when we were there.
They can get shaky &/or uprooted when it’s too windy.
Woke up one morning to a helluva domestic dispute that scared the shit outta my wife...
At The Wheels Estates we used to hear the neighbors getting bounced off the walls sometimes if there was a dispute. The other neighbors were cool.

Friend of mine owns a real estate brokerage in NJ... he's said, just not enough houses have been built in the last 25 years. If I had wanted to remain in NJ after divorce, I couldn't have afforded a house. Barely afforded a house in Saranac Lake NY. There's people coming from Malone and Plattsburgh - an hour away - to work in not great jobs in Lake Placid.

Just to add on... I still follow a Dover NJ forum on FB. My former hometown. Pulte is building a townhouse development nearby in Denville "starting in the $700s." Who can afford this sh**? No one is building affordable houses for the people that maintain your lawn and serve you yer Quarterpounder®️. When I moved out during divorce proceedings, I was lucky to find a rooming house on the down low with an apartment at way below market rate.

Out west here, especially in the coastal states it looks like America is dying. It’s nuts how many people are homeless now.

I think we need to slow the f down on producing offspring. Our economy though and capitalism in general doesn’t approve of that though.

How come folks don’t hear of an Amish housing crisis?
