Any Day, Any Race

Last weekend, national championships happened at Mt van Hoevenberg. I reported on the races for www.nordicinsights.news. Photos from Sunday's race. 40 km in mashed potatoes, uff.

Top to bottom:

Julia Kern (bib 2) and World Cup Overall champ Jessie Diggins (bib 1) heading up the A climb. These two were in a race of their own, minutes off the front. Diggins eventually won.

Peter Wolter (bib 108) leading a group to the height of land. This trail segment was part of the 1980 Olympic trail system.

Close quarters traffic in the fishhook.

Does all that winning get old? Asking for a friend.

Today, Shiffrin's win at the Women's SL at Copper Mtn leads to:
Anna Swenn Larsson was the 5th best in the world today and was 2.06 seconds out!
Katharina Huber was the 13th best in the world today and was 4.00 seconds out!
Those gaps are insane for the top 15 of a World Cup race. It shows the insane, otherworldly talent of Shiffrin.

Wendy Holdener finished 4th today 1.99sec out. She is about 2 years older than Shiffrin. Holdener is an awesome mostly tech skier who has 52 podiums but only 5 wins because of Shiffrin. Holdener should have at least 20 wins, not 5. It was her bad luck to have a career in the same era as the greatest tech skier ever.
