Big Tupper Thread

Interesting article from March 10,2010, about skiing at Big Tupper when it was being run by volunteers:

Pictures of skiable terrain at BT. ❤️

It's nice to see the lodge in good condition, when I saw it it was dreadful.

If anyone has resources or links or images relating to the history of Big Tupper can you post them here?

Sold for $650,000!

"Josh Parnes and business partner Martin Schapira of Jackson, N.J. are behind the bid"
"They say they hope to get the ski resort back open with the county and town involved."

Ah, yes. Buy a crusty, old Eastern ski area with no snowmaking/shaky lifts that has not broke even since the 1970s and your first statement is we need public money.
Classic.

I mean, how hard could it be to open Big Tupper? I know for a fact that Franklin County, the Town of Altamont and the Village of Tupper Lake are just rolling in dough . Maybe they can get the plans for the The Bent Notch HSQ at WF ($16.5million) from ORDA and replace lift 1 to reach the top of BT on a single ride.

Best of luck to the buyers, but as many have said before, where are the customers coming from? Does Big Tupper offer anything that is not available closer to population centers? Hate to be a negative Nellie, but I just don't see how it can attract people other than the nostalgia factor. Is there enough interest in the Watertown/North Country area to support another ski area? There are the ORDA big boys and the smaller areas like Titus, Oak Mountain, McCauley and Snow Ridge. I don't see it as a destination for any folks from the medium to larger cites.

This has been the vibe as long as I've followed this saga. Everyone wants Big Tupper to open, they want to make $$ but they want someone else to foot the bill.

Dudes aren't thinking big enough. They want a gummint subsidy, they shoulda bought a football team.
