Yes You Need Snow Tires

That fender looks like

That fender doesn’t have much left ?. Yes I can see how heavy chain use could do some damage. I used them to get through un plowed areas not for any long trips.

Thanks to @Benny Profane for this

ETA: Didn't watch this initially. Tried to cheat to see the end.

So it was a regular tire, an all season, and all weather and a blizzak.

I missed the regular tire.

All 25 MPH the all weather stopped on 25 feet less than the all season, and the Blizzak stopped in 15 feet less than the all weather.

I googled "how long will a blizzak last if you don't take it off?" The answer I got was 15,000 miles. IT TRUE, that would be one season for me. I'm driving about 20k a year, 15k during ski season.

Yeah, it's all about braking.

Here's the tire I'm going to buy. I really want to avoid snows because I live in a condo with no garage for storage, and, frankly, yeah, I dont want to drop about a thousand for another set of wheels and tires. Never switch tires on the same set of wheels. I learned that the hard way. Once those tires are on a wheel, leave them there. Also, most of my driving will be on dry pavement, even in winter. Even back and forth to upstate or Vermont. So, I'm going to put a set of these Michelin CrossClimate2 on the HRV. This review and others make the claim that they have finally developed a true all season tire, as good in winter as "winter" tires, but great in summer (if maybe a little loud) and claims that they will last 60,000 miles! We'll see. I had a Continental tire rated as all weather as my last set on the old Subaru that pretty much covered all bases, too, but lost effectiveness in the snow around 25,000 miles. Forget the name of them. Hope these work.

Just thumbing through my camera roll to see if I had done any skiing this weekend in years past... nope but I did come across this gem. Turns out you do need snow tires but don't need roof, anyone know the legend who this whip belongs to?

Ha! This reminds me of a story my dad used to tell. Years ago he had a convertible Fiat. He was returning from a ski trip from up north with a friend. They were traveling the Taconic in a snowstorm. He switched driving because he was tired from skiing that day. Woke up as the car was hurtling over the snow bank into the median because his friend had fallen asleep too. The car slowly rolled and came to a rest upside down. They were able to kick out the rear vinyl window. Crawled out and saw that the skis on the rear rack had kept the car off the ground enough to make an escape. Scrambled up the bank and waited until they flagged down a snowplow. He said the long skis on the trunk rack totally saved them. Without them no one would have even known they went off the road.

Miata was the worst thing I've ever driven in the snow. Hell, old tires on it were dangerous in the rain. Fun car, though.

A little P-tex and they should be good to go again.

We jumped out of my friend’s convertible into snowbanks. Never flipped but we’d do cannonballs.
He went on to med school and's a hand surgeon.

With the summer tires, someone needs to walk in front of my Miata with a broom to swipe every last snowflake from the road, but it's pretty good with the winter tires, way better than my Mom's Country Squire with retread snows on the back only.
A few years ago I used to see a Miata with Connecticut plates at Sugarbush and Mad River Glen almost every time I went up there. It looked like he drove with the top down too. I'll take my mine to Gore sometime this season.

Keeping your skis on an exterior rack is a sure way to kill them!
I used to work in a ski shop ,
I’ve seen many a pair of bindings turned into trash.
