Windham Mountain Going Private?

God that is intense. I read the beginning and thought it was a good start.

It just dawned on me that this would never have happened without Ikon, and they just got so arrogant that they think they can continue this momentum without Ikon. Dumb.

Was there something about Windham dropping out of Ikon? If it becomes public/private, can't see any reason Windham couldn't stay on Ikon. After all, several of the Ikon Partners are requiring reservations on busy days.

EDIT: never mind. Hadn't read Stuart's article yet.

Yeah.

"Windham IS PROBABLY:

  • exiting the Ikon Base Pass prior to the 2024-25 ski season (and possibly, eventually, the Ikon Pass altogether)."

I mean, Private and Ikon are like oil and water.

From the subscriber section of Stuart's article:

" . . .
To tighten access further, Windham may follow Ikon’s seven western partners that have left the Base Pass since 2020: Aspen and Jackson Hole in 2020; Alta, Deer Valley, Snowbasin, and Sun Valley in 2022; and Taos ahead of the 2023-24 ski season (Ikon passholders who want access to those mountains can either purchase a full Ikon Pass, or add the $200 “Plus” option to the Base Pass).

“We’re already talking to Ikon about [leaving the Ikon Base Pass],” Seamans said. “Both parties have agreed that it's the right thing to do, but that decision isn't finally made probably until, I don't know, March of next year.”

Long term, Seamans speculated that Windham may leave the Ikon Pass altogether. “The short answer is no,” he said, when asked if the mountain planned to stick with Ikon indefinitely. “We don't know how long that'll be. And the Ikon Pass has been great for us and done exactly what we hoped it would do, which was introduced new people to Windham who had not been there before from the greater New York metro area. And we've always been thrilled to have them. In the future, it may not fit with our plans.”

Were Windham to depart the Ikon Pass, it would become the first ski area to do so in the pass’ six-year history. Should Windham flee Ikon Base, it would be the first eastern resort to do so.

  • and, eventually, erecting a gatehouse, primarily to direct traffic.

Hmmm, right…..
When I was first invited to the Yellowstone Club I pulled up to the gatehouse with my buddy in the Superfry, my veggie-powered 1983 Mercedes 300SD. The gatekeeper asked, “Can we help you?”. I said, “We’ve come to rip the mountain”. He wasn’t exactly amused.
