What's the deal wih the NYSDEC and wolves? They've refused to admit that they been roaming this state for decades. I saw one in very close proximity 3 years ago, in Wilton, NY. Hopefully them admitting the Cooperstown wolf was actually a wolf will move the needle in wolf education, and eventually wolf reintroduction in the 'dacks.

There is some weird bureaucracy thing going on for sure. Any time somebody sees a big cat, they react the same way. I emailed them to get in contact with their amphibian people to talk about my giant turtle sighting when I wrote about it. At first the response was great to hear from you, how can we help? but as soon as I mentioned a species that wasn’t on the official list of NYS native animals, communications ceased. You would think, finding something new would be exciting to them.
