Whiteface Conditions

Sure, valid explanations using unweird science? BUT I saw cars from New Jersey in the parking lot. That has to mean they were drones! From the lift I also thought I saw a pair of empty boots in the snow. I assume the aliens finally found a skier with intelligent life and used their Star Trek powers to beam him up?

These are called lenticular clouds. They are formed by air condensing as it's blown over a ridge at intense speed.

If you're flying an airplane, you avoid at all costs. They indicate areas of extreme turbulence.

One of the many things I've learned about weather from years of flying and my college Meteorology class.

Unless you’re a glider pilot.
Lol , awfully small ones though.

I flew into Calgary BC in the mid 80’s . The flight was uneventful but I spotted the Chinook arch and got really anxious. I didn’t mention it to my ski buddies who were sitting blissfully in their seats. Final approach was hairy I think I left some fingernail marks in the armrest after the positive and negative g’s .

Another awesome WF day. Skyward with the whales groomed out was absolutely as good as it gets outside a powder day. Up until about noon it was perfect packed powder with no ice. Like skiing out west. Absolutely the ROTD.

Wilmington was a runner up as was Northway under the guns. Everything skiied well though. Things did get a little skiied off around 2, but otherwise held up. Not busy at all but I was a single. Line at the summit might have been 10 minutes or so this morning before ski on this afternoon.

Planning to come back tomorrow but I fear the wind is going to shut the mountain down. Gusts to 55 at the top. If so I drive by Gore on the way home, so will just pivot to that if it looks like lifts won't spin

Another great day. I think even better than yesterday. Report said 1" fresh but it was definitely closer to 3-4" mid mountain up which all fell after everything was groomed. Made for a sleeper mini pow day. Skyward was wind loaded and kept getting blown in from the wind. Mountain Run had great powder all over early and sides were still great in the afternoon. Northway was also skiing great with the manmade gun pow.

Skyward/Niagra/Victoria was the ROTD. Really happy with both my Whiteface trips this season. Going to have to keep coming back.

Agree w Kleetus, Skyward was excellent, but w the windblown snow it was hard to see your skiis or the surface as you headed down, just had to trust that there was snow and not ice underneath.
Upper Northway was the sleeper standout in my book, Upper left excellent pow top 2 thirds then cut over to the lower right side bottom third, fabulous.
