Whiteface Conditions

I don’t know if it’s true or not, but I shared a chair earlier this season with a patroller at Gore who has a place up at WF and said that they can’t pull from the creek/river after Presidents Day week. This could easily be debunked by anybody who skis there regularly and has seen the guns firing beyond that point.
Yes - I have heard the same thing - no snow making after Presidents Day .....if that is the case ...this season will be done early with the recent temps. I thought last year there was some snow making - I will pay attention better this year.

I spoke to a Gore snowmaker at Stewarts Monday. He told Gore closed out snowmaking on Presidents Day. I think that's pretty typical, at least in NY. There's just not that many cold hours after mid-February.

"According to ORDA, the river flow minimum has never been triggered, but snowmaking does push up against the 6,000-gallons per minute limit."
How hard do they push against that limit, and can they increase the limit? And why did they build Hoyts and Wilmington if they are water limited? Did they not expect the kind winters we have now? When was the last time Whiteface was 100% by Xmas week?

Another good article - https://www.adirondackexplorer.org/stories/whiteface-snowmaking
Describes the snow making at Whiteface.

Ya can check what’s recently been filed with DEC regarding pumpin outta the W. Branch of Ausable if ya wanna. Goes back a few years.

Belle’s UMP has many pages relating to snowmaking information for covering it's bump...eventhough it ain’t inside The Blue Line.

Isn't Belle inside the NYC watershed? The DEP probably has more water restrictions and more worse reporting requirements than either the DEC or APA.

Belleayre is inside the Blue Line.

All 3 ORDA mountains have made snow in March. But they usually don't, because their snowmaking window only covers November, December, January, and February, and that is sufficient in most seasons. Due to the large power consumption of snowmaking, each month, they have to pay a large fee upfront, so they'd have to do it for March if they want to make snow then.

It has nothing to do with their water rights, which are only based only on gpm and conservation flow. There is no restriction on the dates in which they can withdraw water, and there is no cap on how much they can use in a season. I don't know where these rumors come from, because they are just not true.
