Where are you skiing this week?

Made it to Big Sky today and will be skiing there until the end of the week. Spent the last two days skiing deep powder at Grand Targhee. GT was part of the World Telemark Day.

Photo of the powder in the trees is in the area used for teaching children's lessons. Good fun when there isn't much visibility on the upper mountain.
Targhee looks like it was great, I had been planning on going Sunday but the roads were too bad with blowing snow so I ended up going to Kelly Canyon instead.

Kelly Canyon isn't a bad area, kind of reminds me of West Mountain a lot. About the same vertical, and since I've lived out here fills the same role of being the place that's half as far to drive to as the main ski area I go to but I still end up only going once or twice a year. (Now instead of West vs. Gore/Whiteface/Magic it's Kelly vs. Targhee)

I'll have to keep that in mind. Kelly Canyon is on the Indy Pass.

For skiing Targhee, I usually fly to SLC and drive from there to Driggs.

Royal as usual on Saturday, then Titus next Monday and/or Tuesday "on the way" to a conference in Toronto. I have a room overnight Monday in Malone. I'm thinking about taking advantage of both of my Indy days by leaving home at a reasonable hour on Monday morning to get up that way and to ski just the afternoon, then making sure I can get into Toronto before too late on Tuesday by skiing just the first 2-3 hours after opening.

The only thing I would caution about with Kelly (aside from that conditions usually aren't as nice as Targhee) is that all but one of their lifts are old doubles and most of them don't have safety bars. Doesn't bother me personally but understandable that a bunch of people wouldn't be thrilled. (Two of the doubles have mid-station unloads, which is interesting on a medium sized hill like that.)

Either Gore or Pico on Friday. Pico on Sunday. Going to get fitted for new ski boots on Saturday! I am still wearing my 1st ever pair of ski boots with 85 flex bought in 2018 when I was a never ever skier! They are sooooo packed out. Time to upgrade!

Good to know. No safety bar isn't an issue for me, especially on a double where I can't end up in the middle.

Big Sky still has lifts with no safety bars. It has quite a mix of the latest chairlift technology such as automatic bubble chairs and old double or triple chairs with no safety bars.

Taking the day off after skiing for two weeks in Utah (Snowbird, Alta,Solitude, Brighton, Snowbasin,Deer Valley) and heading for Steamboat tomorrow. Much more crowded and crazy since last time we were out here in 2019.Amazing amounts of snow and powder, although the visibility on many days hasn't been the best.

Windham or Plattekill tomorrow, with an outside chance of Mohawk. Back to WIndham Monday and Tuesday.
