I’m not great at politics or war or news really but this seems like a pretty major deal right now.

The nuclear power Putin is sitting on is certainly concerning. If we don’t act though it seems like Putin holds the cards and we lose power. Maybe Ukraine is all that matters to him but if he gains that power what’s to stop him going further?

From one article I just read we apparently don’t have nuclear weapons to match Russia’s. So does this force the world into another arms race and create global wide tensions?

Global tensions related to nuclear weapons + climate change = the big decline imo.

2022 looks over at 2020 and 2021 and just said, “hold my beer.”

Hey RA, on nuclear weapons, I would note that even if the US may have less, each of the US and Russia have enough to make the world uninhabitable many times over. So the need for an arms in the short to medium term does not seem like a logical conclusion to me.

There are a lot of tensions. This may drive Europe and the US closer together, even though right now Europe is dependent on Russian energy. For example, there are (legal) Russian military forces in Belarus about 50 miles from my wife's city in Poland (it is the top left part of the crescent of Russian military forces surrounding Ukraine on three sides).

These are very negative events, but people and society are pretty resilient.

It's crazy time unfortunately have no idea what happens just trying to hope for best outcome I don't like war or corruption politicians to maybe the evil people in charge should hang with mj that would help in my opinion the people in charge don't care about us citizens they care about money and power I wish we had revolution from 60s that was again all evil Vietnam came close but Gov stop it free thinking sorry Harvey if to politics I edit or delete my answer

I feel like you’re giving way too much credit for the sensibilities of humans, hopefully I’m wrong.

If Europe and the United States are forced to become more energy independent what will that mean for curbing emissions and other efforts to fight climate change?

I think it’s a cascading shit storm and exactly what some have predicted.

I think this can stay civil Scotty. It’s not about our own identity politics are not so far at least.

PS, identity politics are really fucking dumb, that’s all I got on that.

Russia is in a weird position
They basically only produce oil, pornos and computer viruses. What he wants with that radioactive waste land of Ukraine is anyones guess.
Let’s hope he’s not trying to the old USSR back together

I think people should talk to actual Ukrainians before making brash pronouncements about this (there are plenty at the ski areas in the northeast), especially when they know nothing about geopolitics and probably couldn’t find Ukraine on a map.

I also think you have to be careful what you read on the internet because there is a lot of Russian disinformation out there (that makes it’s way into legitimate news sources after it is laundered through dickheads & dupes).
