Anyone do it?

I am not a runner but when its too hot for the pooch or if I want to get a full workout on the mountain bike, I can't take him. Lately on hot days (its already been in the hi 80's midday a bunch) I've been taking hikes with him on single track in the local woods and running a bit. I needed a pair of kicks so I investested in a pair of trail running shoes.

I'm new and slow but find the quick foot action needed to bounce around or on roots and rocks, etc has a similar feel (albeit nowhere even close!!!) to lead changes in tele skiing.

I’m not a runner, more of a trail jogger. I find the roads to be rough on the body. Do some distance hiking from time to time. In 3 1/2 weeks we’re shooting for the Devil’s Path in a day. Will post a report if we make it.

I run in the woods... And bike in the woods... My ankles suck so I have to stick to soft services. I'm very slow but I enjoy it. The dog likes it too. We go around shaver pond. He takes a few dips I get my exercise. We rode tonight in pittstown forest. Good climb not as much water. Dog always finds mud. I bought a 110 gallon horse troth and put it behind some bushes in the yard. Filled out up. When we get home I toss the dog in there and he cleans right up. I change the water one a week. Works so much better than a hose. That was my light bright idea this summer.

Oh remember to keep picking your feet up when you get tired. You will remember after the first couple of trips.

This is good!

This too sounds like smart advice. Thanks.

Good luck with the Devil's Path. I've never done the full hike. I would think you're wearing boots for that, no?

I gave up boots a long time ago. Now, I swear by Altras with gaiters and Darn Tough socks with Injinji toe sock liners. I’ll probably go with the Altra Lone Peak 5s. Also, I find that trekking poles help immensely in rough country. It’ll be a long day for sure. Hoping for good weather.

Ran cross country in high school and loved running the courses going up and down through the woods.
Now it’s just walking golf courses and chasing the ball as efficiently as I can.

What I call trail running prolly more like trail jogging. I do hill repeats at a lost NJ ski area, I've got to walk the steepest bits and my heart rate is 174. Longer days, I'm walking the steep stuff to keep my heart rate down. Much prefer the woods to pavement for running.

I was waiting for you to chime in.
Like I said originally, I'm not a runner and the local woods are quite hilly, so I'm really trail jogging as well.
