Today's Ride

Same here with pond levels

New bike day for MrsS. We had been averaging around 11-1/2 mph on our local go-to rail trail ride, yesterday was 14.7!

Very nice!!!!!

I took my 10 year old Giant Talon in for service. I was thinking, total rebuild for the next 10 years. When they priced out everything, it was only anothe $150 to get a new Talon, which is — to my amazement — the same price I paid for the original 10 years ago.

Basically a very similar bike, except:

Only one chain ring up front (fewer gears but a similar range)
A dropper seat post
29 inch wheels vs 27

What do you guys think about going to a 29er? It rolls over obstacles easier? What is the downside?

If you guys were a 66 year old fart would you move to a 29? How many of you ride a 29 as your daily driver?

Any input welcome.

I've been on a 29 since 2012. I also have 27. 29 rolls over roots better. You get a little bit higher speed on the flats. Can be clunky in tight slow moving rocky trails

it depends on what you ride... a 29 will get you over stuff a little easier, to be honest i don't think you would know the difference...If you ride for the downhill a dropper is one of the biggest improvements in MTB... a really good new hard tail will cost around 1-1500k.

I guess this one isn't really good, I think it's 950. I put 500 down, will buy it, or something, in the next two weeks.

Which one do you ride more?
