Titus Conditions

Bluebird day, corn horn is blowing, upper mountain is open. Come get it.

Friday, you say?

Montreal out there somewhere...

Like @Mike said. It all skied pretty well.

Then, today, Sunday, March 16 2025. From corn horn to closing bell? All in one long weekend. Saw @Mike from the chair and bellered at him! He was waiting at the bottom and we exchanged a good old NYSB greeting right about lunch time, which was about the end of normal operations. The upper mountain closed for wind. Then a tree fell on the most northerly lift. Karen (since 1992 a ski instructor at Titus) watched as the tree clipped the haul rope, knocking it off the @snoloco "little wheelie dealies" sheaves? Then the tree bounced off her. When she got to the top (incident occurred roughly mid-lift) she realized the tree had knocked off both skis. She was uninjured, and skied down. Made a point to tell my nephew how the safety bar definitely saved her. Rumor has it that may be it for the mountain. The snow was washing away by 3 pm.

Dang boarder--sleeping in the middle of the run!

Harvey's Road seems to have lots of rocks. I didn't go in.

If this is it, it was a good run. Tornado warnings at 6 pm this day just to west in St. Lawrence County. @Mike, PM if you want to uphill this week. Tues. does look good. I might be able...

Wow, a tree his chair one! Yikes. The snow is disappearing, like March in 2012. Yes, Titus had a good run this year, and did a terrific job. They blew a lot of snow to get the year going, and the grooming, right up to the last day was superb. It's such a fun place.

@Mike is gadding about, skiing actual open areas, with lifts! But he asked for a report. Here is what the boot pack up looked like about 10 am April 17, 2025. This is a natural snow trail (Riverview), this fell overnight (and melted during the day). There was at least a couple of inches below 2000 ft and more above.

I think my first run down from the summit might have been the best of the year. The snow was really nice and powdery with a discontinuous 12 inch base of machine-made snow. I tried to ski the lower 300 ft without a break and nearly crashed from fatigue. Thankfully, the big water bar near the bottom of Sundance was rotted out so I had to stop. This is as close as I get to turn farming. I did 5 runs so now Sundance is skiied out but Titusville Express might hold a run or two? I didn't try it because the top looked so rough but lower down it looked good. Super good weather, super day, the kind I live for, hot pow and sun!

Got a late start (chores) but the sun came out and made it all worthwhile. Phone died on the first run (forgot to turn it on airplane for the drive) so I only have a few crappy photos. The clouds hung low in the valley all afternoon. Some of the tamer woods were doable, as were the water bars on the trails, with caution advised. The Upper Mt. Liftie (same one as last year) seemed dubious that they would be open again soon, maybe not even for 4 weeks! I love that liftie, he could work at Bolton, he is that cool, but I hope he is wrong.

@Harvey mentioned skinning up. My buddy said his buds had done it. Here is the skin track I found by going only slightly AWOL. I guess the snow was about 10 inches deep, certainly enough for a November open.

Always gotta get the bridge shot--following the uphillers around. I think @Warp daddy liked the bridge too. I thought of him a bunch today. Vale Warp, Vale. Cancer sucks. Hug your friends and family today. And go ski!
