The Fire and Rain and Smoke Thread

The approach to fighting the Blue Mountain fire seems quite different than what happens in the west. Or maybe it just the reporting.

The terrain and forest have a different type of fuel than out west. It’s mostly dry leaves which work their way in between rocks and boulders. We rarely have this issue in the fall it’s mostly a dry weather stretch in spring before the trees leaf out. The upper part of the north side has some pine and fir trees which could be a problem.

They started a back fire along a bordering road. I’m hopeful they can prevent an East/ North expansion. They’re using bulldozers to create fire breaks.

There are not too many large aerial resources nearby as there hasn’t been a demand.

I've been wondering how much knowledge fire fighters around here have of dealing with wildfire
I’m sure they’ve had some training or education but very little actual experience.

I imagine the forests there are a completely different beast. At least you don’t get the winds quite like we do in the SW but there certainly isn’t any shortage of fuel out east.
