Glad your area got 6-7”. My area in southeast PA received ~3 inches. Just enough to convince me to take the rock skis out to a nearby (very) low angle, leaf-filled area yesterday afternoon. It was fun to play for one run (with no damage to the skis) but not enough cover to convince me to take a second run. Switched to the cross-country skis and happily played for the rest of the afternoon. Looks to be below freezing for the next few days so I’m hoping to get the cross-country skis out a couple more times. Snow in my neck of the woods cannot be taken for granted!

Rockin the Annums Gorg, finally replaced those skis with the Fisher S Bound 98 as my low angle ski.

Petersburg Pass - 2/1/25

About 15 cars in the parking lot at noon. Good coverage. Maybe 10-12" base. Unfortunately it seemed like the warm air/rain mixing during the last snow event resulted in a thick crusty layer (couple inches thick) that made a difficult ski in the untracked snow. The crust would give way while turning and grab my boot. Hopefully the upcoming warmth this week will consolidate the snowpack into a more stable base for future storms to build on.

Next morning, time to go home, but I see snow over by Mount Colden, ah, what the heck, go check it out. Woo Hoo, the Avalanche Pass ski trail delivers 100 ft of what ever this is...well, those are my ski tracks, so I am going to call it snow! Such a good trip. Sure I only skied for 1.5 hours, but those hours were necessary for my peace of mind. Time to watch those ski movies all summer.

Still some good stretches of skiable terrain in one shaded E/W valley nearby. Felt good to get out and get in some nice XC skiing before dark, liking the time change a lot.

Excellent early season, already have several days in on XC trails. A few bony spots but really good for this early!

I’m thinking of treating myself to some Fischer S-Bound 112s. Anybody have any experience with them?

I’m viewing them as a sort of poor man’s Charger- mainly to be used in Harriman on hiking trails and woods roads and such. Haven’t decided on bindings. I’d like to put on something I already have but that means choosing between very light NNN BC and full on AT with relatively light old AT boots

that is a great ski, I have an older version with 75 mm bindings. Tours well, climbs well (surprisingly given the camber) and does big radius turns really smoothly.
