Tales from the Lift Shack

I was in a top shack once out west when the patrollers were doing some avi control. When the blasts went off, the windows shook like mad. I'm surprised they didn't break.
I remember one morning some of our fellow lifties went up the weasel lift before opening to snake first tracks and managed to ski right under a patroller about to throw a bomb. That caused some controversy

The kid took pity on me and shared a pic from last night. Nice work IMO

Took my first chair hit yesterday trying to clear the pit and it drove my shovel into me. Can’t underestimate how powerful those chairs are. So far I’ve mostly had beginner chaos and yelling at guests that wouldn’t keep their masks on. Expecting a lot more of that to happen.

Have you ridden around the bullwheel yet.
I haven’t done it yet but the other day I saw someone else get scooped up by a chair as he was shoveling and ride around the bullwheel. He ran off before the chair got to the skier that was loading thankfully.

About 30 years ago I skied Utah in search of a job. I skied with some instructors at Park City. Having not seen any avalaunchers, I asked why they didn't have any. I was told that was an older approach. They went on to say that Alta once miscalculated the launch of a bomb, saying that it went over to the Snowbird side and blew up a lift shack. I don't know if that's true, but it made for a good story.
