Stowe Conditions

I don't get the idea of buying a parking pass if you might not be able to use it.
Were there that many people closed out of the large close-in parking lots at Stowe last season?

None of the parking passes out west guarantee a space. I have the most experience with Utah parking policies. Also been following Jackson Hole and Mt. Bachelor, plus Crystal at times. My sense is that the season pass holders aren't really interested in trying to ski on the 30 or so days that are super busy. Meaning holiday periods and some Saturdays. If they do ski on Saturdays, wouldn't they show up early any way?

Buying a parking pass is like buying a lift access season pass. With a season pass you can't be closed out because lift tickets are limited. Does that mean not standing in a lift line if you arrive at 10 or 11am? No.

Except that with a season pass you can ski any day.

The benefit is cost I guess. If parking is $30/day then 15 days is the breakeven.

Although many locals probably buy the pass that has holiday blackout dates.

The Stowe season pass used to be about $2000 before VR took over not that long ago. A Full Epic pass is on the order of $900. Epic Local with blackout dates is around $700. Both provide access to Stowe and all other Epic resorts in the northeast and out west. A parking pass is optional. Do locals really want to go back to the way things were?

For Stowe, cars with 4 people park for free.

So it's like a weekday pass. If most spots are paid, and you want to park close when lots are empty, when you arrive early.

I kind of doubt locals would gang up to get 4 people, if they are grabbing a few runs before work or whatever.

The difference between lifts and parking is that parking runs out. Lift lines just get long, but technically you aren't prevented from skiing.

Clearly money is no object, for many. They never had any problem selling $2000 passes.

The few Stowe locals I know seem disgruntled, even the ones who were optimistic about Vail. Most of the ones who worked for the mountain were fired or forced out. Others even left town.
Steaux is a long way from what it was when I skied there 50+ years ago.

Completely understand. My rhetorical question was more thinking specifically about potential season pass holders with regard to the parking situation.

The DCSki folks who were regulars at the former SnowTime resorts (Roundtop, Whiteail, Liberty) also long for the "good ole days." Those who live in Pittsburgh are not happy at how the transition for the trio in that area is going (Seven Springs, Hidden Valley, Laurel Mountain.)

My first skiing besides Whiteface was three days at Stowe in 1970 when I was in 8th grade at North Country School. It was so cold! Checked it out a couple times for a day or two before the VR acquisition when I had other reasons to be in New England.
