Ha I love this expression.

We have a kid, the son of our builder, hunting our land in the Adk. He's after deer. I spoke to him the last time I was up. He's been out 3 times, never raised his gun. He told me he loves our land and enjoys himself, shots or not. Made me smile.

This time of year when I still lived in NJ... I'd see lots of hen turkeys when I roller skied by Picatinny Arsenal. Toms, not so much.

I always forget about spring turkey season and have had a few close mtb encounters... the best was a few years ago I could hear a tom in the distance and came up quickly over a rise, startling both the calling hunter and myself. He was solo in a mentored hunting only area but he was the one with the gun so I didn't give him too much shit.
On the return leg of my loop I heard the call again. As I dropped into a little downhill section I was keeping my eyes peeled for the dude but ended up getting the shit scared out of me again! This time by breaking twigs and branches and what sounded like choppers flying through the Viet Cong as the surprised gaggle (?) took flight.

I am a little more cognizant of spring turkey season these days lol, thanks for the reminder!
