Well it looks like ski areas Sierra At Tahoe and Kirkwood are going to be on fire today or tomorrow unless there’s a major shift with winds. Today and tomorrow are red flag days so it’s not looking good.

I saw that.

It seemed like they were going to make a stand at the ski area, I guess that changed? If it burns to the ground is the ski area done?

The ski areas can probably come back, especially if structures are protected enough or they have the financial backing/desire to do so. This fire is going to have long lasting impacts on the highway 50 corridor. I imagine the flooding is going to be really bad through there.

I was camping in that area just a month ago. I’m glad I get to visit before this.

Climate migration is now a very real thing. Tourism trends are changing drastically, this is seriously f-d up.

I wasn't meaning to be crass. Obviously there are more important things at stake than skiing. I was just curious.

Part of Sierra at Tahoe is inside the Caldor fire border. The Sierra at Tahoe webcams seem to be locked into yesterday.
Kirkwood is between the Caldor fire to the west and the Tamarack fire to the east. The Caldor fire is close.

Watched the forest service cam at Sierra at Tahoe. Ya can do time lapses.
I put a link in summer weather thread but droppin it in here too since it appears appropriate.

I didn’t read it as crass.

it’s a ski forum.

The impacts on highway 50 are going to negatively affect the skiing and tourism in South Lake. I wouldn’t be surprised if the communities along there are no longer inhabitable.
