Song, Labrador and Toggenburg

I'm trying to become better educated about the ski areas across New York.

In Central NY Song, Toggenburg and Labrador are grouped together, south of Syracuse and have similar numbers for vertical and snowfall.

From those who know, what can you tell me about this distinct characteristics of each, how they are different and how they are similar? Would like to know about the terrain and tree skiing at each, and whatever you think are important characteristics.

Any help is appreciated.

I can't speak to the skiing as it's been a long time since I've skied at any of them, like the 80's.

What I do know is Song/Lab are owned by the same guy, and Greek owns Togg. They all have their following and are enjoyed by those who go there.

I don't see Song as having much in the line of tree skiing. Its a ski hill that starts are the top of a hill and goes out in different directions down gently to the bottom. I look at it a lot. Lab on the other hand goes across a ridge line and lookers left has a decent pitch and a lot of trees. When I do ski out there, which will probably be this year I will start with Lab. Neither really get snow like they used to. Very few real powder days

From what I recall Labrador has a little more terrain than the other two. Skiers right, the "South Peak" has some decent pitch. Toggenburg had a solid reputuation for having the best terrain park in the area.

If you ever ski Song at night... bring a headlamp.

I’ve skied both with season pass at both. Replies above are correct but to add lake effect bands are narrow sometimes. We’ve skied Lab and Song same days with noticeable differences in pow and they’re not too far apart as crows fly. Song is awarding free season pass to whoever gives the best name to new bar + grill. I put in Melodies Lodge. It’s the new place in the middle in pic.

Skied Lab several times when visiting relatives in CNY , fun little place .

As others have stated skiers right has some modest degree of sustained pitch and trees. .intercollegiate races were held there mostly GS and slalom .I believe it was home hill for Colgate U. for awhile Skiers left has primarily nice gentle cruising. And extreme skiers left is fine if you want to just run laps and crank wide turns or warm up for the day

Nothing at Lab will give you serious steeps , but it is still a fun place for good days skiing at a reasonable price .

I skied Togg a few years ago. I had time to kill in Cazenovia, and it was free because I have a GP pass. Conditions were not great, pretty chunky loose granular, which is not their fault. Because of the conditions, I did not hit the blacks off of the triple chair, so I can't speak to those.

Honestly, I found it terrifying. There seems to be one main hill, served by two lifts, that lots of people were skiing. According to the trail map, there are five trails, ranging from green to black, but it was pretty much wide open. There were newbies snowplowing sideways down the hill, with racers zooming around them. I don't remember any markers differentiating the trails. I guess that somehow, you just were supposed to know.

I remember that the lift line was pretty much a free-for-all, and there were no foot rests on the lifts.

Other than that, someone told me that the kids love the terrain park.

The coach at Colgate works at the SKICompany in Syracuse. He’s great gut and knows his stuff. I had my boots fitted with him as well as a recent minor liner wear repaired by him. Socks I was using were too thick. His name is Jim.

Both my wife and i got our boots there and she got her skis and helmet there.......good outfit !

Harvey, I owe you a write up on Song. Could probably do Lab too.
I tend to prefer Song to Lab. It is NE facing and holds snow longer. There are some winding trails that possess an aesthetic that I like. Lab tends to have multiple "boulevard" trails straight down the hill. There are steep sections on these trails, but are not sustained.
The two steep trails at Song are Otto's (22 degrees) and Jupiter (28 degrees) are consistent in their steepness the whole trail. Beyond Jupiter is some incredibly steep tree skiing (30+ degrees).
