SLC great river drying up

This is actually happening. 2.1 is considered the break even rate, with a "normal" mortality rate.

It's not the same around the world, I think Africa's number is higher but not sure about the mortality rate there.
Well it sure has become more crowded with humans everywhere. I’ve been out west since 94 and it’s a very different place now since then.

The reason to be concerned that the lake is disappearing is that there has been the longest period of extended period of drought since the dam was built. Matybe the longest period of drought ever. And millions of people depend on Lake Mead for power and irrigation. If drought becomes the new normal in the Colorado River basin, what happens to Las Vegas, Phoenix and Los Angeles?

OTOH the Great Salt Lake is arguably the least important large body of water in the world.

Then Vegas, Phoenix and L.A. shrink back to populations and "development" appropriate to water availability. In the case of Vegas, basically nothing, because it's in the middle of the stinking desert. How anybody can justify that place at a time like this is absurd. L.A. isn't much further behind. It only rains there about 15 inches a year, and basically zero inches from April to October.

There's a lot of people throwing dirt on the northeast and proclaiming the West as our future. I dont get it. It rains here. You cannot live without water.

Oh, and SLC skiing will be ruined by overpopulation much sooner than climate change. I think it already is. Too many skiers.
There’s not enough folks who wanna work so they’re canceling the summer Snowbasin concert series out there.
Maybe if ya could bring yer own ya could still have the music.

"Despite numerous adjustments, increased recruiting efforts and great perks, we have experienced a severe staff shortage in our Food & Beverage operations."

Or, in other words, we are not paying employees enough to entice them to come to work at such a crappy job.

That's too dismissive of a problem that directly affects maybe 20 million people. There are 10 million living in LA county alone. They're not just gonna "shrink back." Whether they move out or stay put, they're gonna do something, and chances are you are not going to like it.

This reminded me of the time my 4 year old son was in a serious car crash. When I asked him what happened, he described how the entire right side of the car was violently destroyed. When I asked if he was afraid, he said "No. I was sitting in the other side of the car." Sometimes problems stay where they begin, but usually the consequences spread all over the place.

So after 4 yers of immigration restrictions followed by a pandemic that shut down international travel almost completely you can't get people to take crappy low wage jobs? What a surprise.

Blame it on whatever makes you feel good

Bottom line is people don't want to go to work. Heck, we're paying the lazy to stay home so for those who do want to work what an opportunity.

Then what's the solution? Americans, or "the market" are behaving very badly right now. Have you seen real estate prices out there? It's absurd, and as though your millions of people are in denial. Vegas and Phoenix, along with many other really dry places are still growing! The only solution I see is a really long pipeline from the PNW or Great Lakes, as though that would be politically or even legally possible. Meanwhile we're living through one of our wettest Julys ever. Nuts.
