Skiers: If You Could Move Anywhere... ?

Thanks. How did you find the taxi?
Well there were services online but I just asked the hotel we were staying at if they had a recommendation and they recommended Giuliano. I sent him an email with our flight information and he was there holding a sign when we arrived. He didn't even accept any payment until he brought us back 10 days later.

Awesome.

Not really a bad price, considering. Did you tip him? Do you tip cab drivers? Tipping is always an issue

In 1983 I was looking at a cabin in Albion basin , when I discovered Alta had a lottery for season passes I very stupidly didn't buy the place. 115k I think.

Seconding this choice, Driggs or Victor would be my top choices, close to JH and Targhee and would save me from having to deal with 33 closing every time it gets windy. (Unfortunately my commute's long enough as it is and I don't want to stick another hour and a half onto it.)

Bozeman and that area also looked pretty nice when I visited last November.
I would pick Bozeman over Driggs/Victor. When I head to Big Sky I always also ski a few days at Bridger, usually staying in Bozeman. Stopping in Driggs to ski Grand Targhee is usually part of the trip too. Did that for the third time in a decade this season. Having Bridger as a local mountain all winter would be fun. Easier drive than from Driggs to GT, although there are bus options for both.

Story about Bridger on a powder day . . .
In 2019 I rode up the Alpine lift (greens, blues, blue trees) with a grandfather from Chicago after a powder storm. The story was that his son had married a Montana woman and had convinced him and his wife to retire to Bozeman. Easy sell after they had a grandson as well. What the grandfather didn't anticipate was that Bridger wouldn't be a quiet mountain on a midweek powder day. Apparently the schools and many employers are "powder friendly." There are adults who bring kids in good standing at school on powder days, meaning tweens and even young teens are all over the place. We saw several groups of kids who were obviously advanced skiers off the Pierre's Knob lift with just one adult. By lunch time, the seniors were headed home because of the "crowd."

Zero
But imo one of the best locations
Great mtb
Small city
Close to real medical care
Close to major airport
1/2 to hour to fantastic skiing
One more
It hardly rains
Totally agree with Carson City/Carson Valley. The Carson Valley is high desert with moderate weather and very little snow in the valley. It is also 4 hours from San Fransisco. The area south of Carson City used to be affordable, but not any longer. There is zero chance we will retire in the Carson Valley, also. :)

We will stay in NNJ. We love our current location and we are close to family. Hopefully, we will try to spend 2 to 4 weeks in various locations in the US/Canada/Europe and any other areas that seem interesting.

We are happy but I wish something was closer. Or a surface lift in the mountains around us... Got FEMA d in 2012 so we are going nowhere anyway.
