Ski Waxing

I have my skis tuned maybe twice a season, but I ski less than 20 days a season.

Speaking of bases, anyone have any feedback on DPS Phantom base treatment?

I wax my skis as needed, really depends on snow as to how many times between. But as a general rule I’ll wax after every 3-4 day's on set of skis . Easy to do when your sitting home looking for something to do at night. I touch up sides whenever I wax with Fine diamond stone.

None of it is very difficult, I find it relaxing. If you get a kit I would recommend to get a sidewall plainer and not worry to much about getting a base angle guide.

I have Phantom on all my skis at this point (4 pairs). All DIY in my front yard in NC. Treated the first pair with Version 1.0 in Jan 2018 from the Kickstarter. The others were Version 2 with A&B packets.

First tested on my narrow that I use for southeast, Mid-Atlantic, and northeast skiing. Have about 50 days with them over the last 3 seasons, including 10 days this month at Massanutten (100% manmade snow). Did a stone grind between the 2019-20 and 2020-21 season. Works great in all conditions. But especially good during late season when temps are over 40. Took them to Oregon and Mammoth in May 2018 when temps were well over 50 by 11am. Also brought a pair of 88mm skis with good wax. No contest that the 78mm skis with Phantom were better for late, late season.

Took my rock skis with Phantom out to Alta in April 2019. Also took my current all-mountain skis with fresh wax. Skied the rock skis a lot more because it turned out to be pretty warm during most of that 2-week trip. I'd be happily skiing until 3:30 or 4:00 when most of the others staying at Alta Lodge would give up by 2:00, if not by lunch time.

I learned enough to wax my own skis, but only did it about half the time. Wasn't interested in dealing with edges. That doesn't need to be done that often when skiing in the southeast or out west, which is where most of my days have been since I started buying skis.

As people say, waxing skis is like skiing powder. You can't do it too much.

I'm do intrigued by Phantom. This off season I'm going to pull the trigger.

@MarzNC do you ever wax your Phantom skis for extra glide in certain conditions?

I send my skis off to Zach Caldwell every so often for stone grinding. Wax before every day I go out.
