Ski Rack, Cargo Box, Truck Bed or Inside?

Do you have the Alpine one? And is that 32-33 without the box or with?
It's an Alltrack SE, socialist DSG transmission. (Sorry, I live manual) Mileage is without rooftop box and crossbars.

1.8 Liter? My SEL has a bit more weight to it and in the winter I'm on winter tires, but If so that jives, ~ 2 mpg penalty.

We're getting off topic but I have wondered if something like this would reduce the drag, not to mention look a lot nicer. The stock crossbars that came with the car sit fairly high.

1.8L motor - isn't that the only one available for an Alltrack? I bought it in May, so I haven't bought winter tires for it yet. As far as the Rhino Rack crossbar goes... I have to wonder if that would make much difference. Whether you're putting a ski box or bikes up there, you're still pushing more stuff through the air. Are there any engineers on here?

It will help a lot with noise when the roofbox isn't on.

OT: If you can think of a good name for this I will break it out.

ETA: moved

Not an engineer but the closer you can get to one exposed surface the less drag I would guess? That being said if it only saves you 1 mpg it would take something like 100K- 150K miles to make up for the $550 price tag. Though it does look cool.

For 2019, the final sale year in the US I think both the S, and SE were only sold in 1.4L to increase efficiency.

The "Box, Rack, or Inside" Thread?

Since I’m no longer a pickup owner, I guess I need to determine how I’m going to be transporting my skis next winter. Seems like a cargo box is the best bet but they are also the most expensive option. What have you all tried? Anybody just bungee their skis directly onto the load bars? As crazy as it sounds, I’m now asking myself: why not?
I bungied skis to crossbars a couple times. Worked great until one of the bunny cords failed.

I have a subie...no rack or box..put down a seat and put the bad boys in the car...I fit 3 pair along with boot bags and 3 pp including the driver..
Yup. Sometimes if I’m lucky the golf clubs are in there in the springtime too.
