Shop Talk

What about this guy? What should he do?
Boots on wrong feet.jpg

It’s been a long time since I’ve worked in a shop but there were two ways we mounted bindings.

We had drilling jigs that were pretty much impossible to drill incorrectly as long as you used the proper drill.

The second was use a template to lay out the screw locations. If you didn’t pay attention the center line alignment could be off a bit.

Agree with Marz there could be other things. If you have wood core skis some of the laminated pieces might have a different flex pattern.

A few years ago I had a shop do a stone ground and they put a right ski sticker on. Just for the heck of it I started using it as labeled. I can actually tell the difference now. They are in need of a serious tuneup. I have a feeling that once I do it I won’t be able to tell.

That's dumb. In the event of a bad accident, how is one to tell which ski was on which foot? I mean, who is going to leave their skis on and track that info?
I idea is having your boot in the correct binding will help you avoid a bad accident.

So a couple of you were right. I talked to the tech and he said, it's because if the heel and back edge of the boots is worn it won't release check properly. I didn't ask what happens if they are too worn. He said large shops like REI the request for both boots is more common.
