Shop Talk

yea I had a re-mount done last season and only brought one boot in, they made me go back and get the other one as well

Was it REI or another shop?

Probably. Just like politics, we need them out of skiing as well.
I took my skis in for a tune and binding check one year and they put "Left" and "Right" stickers on them. I asked several people knowledgeable about bindings if it mattered what side I put them on and they said, "No".
If my edges were getting a little dull I would switch sides and the skis held better on the hard pack.

I wonder if they switch em to check release in both boots in both skiis.
If not, why not?
That could be. It's just that I've never been asked for both boots. I'm wondering if this is something specific to REI or something new in the ski world.

I even asked once if there was a difference between right and left and was told no. I was told you can switch R/L to help wear more evenly. With that said I generally wear my skis on the same foot because the graphic design

It was another shop- Blue Mountain
One of the local shops here used to put a "right" ski sticker with their logo, I just figured it was cheap advertising

The theory about left and right might have to do with manufacturing variances of bindings/boots and worn out boot soles. It is about how the individual unit (boot and binding) acts when they test it.

That's dumb. In the event of a bad accident, how is one to tell which ski was on which foot? I mean, who is going to leave their skis on and track that info?

I wonder if they have decided it's a good idea to also check the status of the boot soles? If someone has boots that have worn a worn heel or toe, that would be a factor for the performance of the binding.

I wear out the soles of my shoes differently. Had both the toe and heel pieces of my boots replaced last season.
