Rest in Peace Betsy Pratt 3/12/28 - 03/17/23

The legend I heard was that MRG was among the first places that allowed snowboards, but they had to stop letting them ride the single chair as the boarders were derailing the cable from the top bullwheel upon dismount, due to the push-off required (there's no down ramp at the top of the single). After that ban, a couple of boarders dressed Ms. Pratt down in a grocery store, so she banned them entirely--ya gotta admit, Burton's early rebellious marketing, which was very successful, didn't instill diplomacy into snowboard culture at that time.
I heard some good snowboarder jokes recently.

Two snowboarders in a car. Who's driving?

The cop.

How do you address a snowboarder in a suit and tie?

Would the defendant please rise.

OK, hands up class. Honestly, how many have skied MRG, and, if you have, how many times?
Maybe three or four times. Not sure.

Why do you ask?

Because the place is revered by so many northeast skiers who have barely skied it or not at all. I cant imagine how bad conditions were this year.
What is their revenue? Has to be awful. How do they even survive?

I assume they survive on coop/member fees?

I like the place alright, but wouldn't use the word "revered" for me. Currently I ski a lot of weekends, so it doesn't really work for me too often. All of my days at Mad were midweek. If I'm driving to VT I usually choose Jay, Smuggs, Killington or Magic.

I’ve probably skied there around two dozen times during the two winters before I moved out west.

Those were those early 90’s years when it snowed all winter long.

Of course it can be shit. I’ve actually never skied there when it was though, same for Plattekill.
