Powder days are overrated.

Looking at the trail map it looks like a short, quick walk to get to the top of chair 2. That could be a good thing for preservation I’d think. Does ski patrol allow that or is it a no go?
@Joneski73 was that line we poached lift 2?

Worse powder experience
Alta. I still have PTSD. the locals are mother F’ ers.
Got yelled at on the High T, huh?

I am certainly no fan of the rope drop madness on the weekends at crowded western resorts. When I am at one of those places on a wild day, I am content to ski slightly tracked stuff and do things that others won’t consider (like hike for 5-10 minutes) to get away from the crowds.

But as people have mentioned, I like powder days at a mountain like Platty because there is fresh snow all day (which we should all shut up about or those maniacs will come over from Windham or Hunter). Plus, I really like powder days when I know a mountain well enough to:
1. Have stashes
2. Know where the crowds are at any given time
3. Know how to avoid those crowds

But the powder days are definitely more rare in the East (bordering on “unacceptably low” levels for me). People have left the East for this reason.

It’s a tough thing to figure out. Phoenix & SLC & Denver & SF/Sacramento/Reno & Seattle just have so many skiers. And if they are all going to 1 or 2 or 6 resorts, those resorts are gonna be super crowded.

Western resorts that aren’t destinations and aren’t close to huge population centers is probably the answer.

I bet Revelstoke gets a lot of good, uncrowned powder days throughout the season.

Chair 2 no longer seems to be a priority, which is too bad, because there is some great terrain off that old thing
Very true
Love chair 2
I wonder if it's simply more of a staffing issue than not wanting to run it. It's only been in the last couple of years that they haven't been running that mid-week and I know they've been struggling with lifties.

Unfortunately Greek often does not run Chair 2 during the week, so there is no access to the upper glades off chair 2 on those days. Chair 2 no longer seems to be a priority, which is too bad, because there is some great terrain off that old thing.
Fuck
Those trees are probably the one thing that makes the drive worth it to me. The whole hill is good but Chair 2 is unique.

Yeah but if it’s closed and your allowed to make the tiny itty bitty walk to the top from the traversing green runs off the other chairs it’s sort of a win win, no?

Sort of but not really in my opinion. The bright side for me is that I’m more likely to be there on a weekend so maybe snow preservation

that extra 80 vertical feet makes that much of a difference? It looks like a 5 minute walk from epicurus

If it’s a long drive I guess I get it though. Who wants to walk after all of that effort. If you lived there though it shouldn’t be much of a thing.

Trade camp some beers for a few bile laps on 2!
