Portable Speakers

haven't been to Belle in years but I remember the lift guy on the far right lift servicing Dot Nebel would play classical music at the halfway exit, a little Mozart seemed to make everyone feel good, course you only heard it for about twenty seconds
Ode to Joy and/or Sugar Magnolia-Fire on the Mountain pair well with the top shack.

He was a cool dude
Mozart to Joplin
He passed a few years ago

The people that ski/board with a speaker blasting from their backpack etc look like total tools.

I listen to music all the time when I ski. I've had these for years. They slip into my Smith ear pockets and I can still hear everything around me and carry on normal conversation... it's like having background music, but no one else needs to listen to.

I love it when the lifties have music at the lift. Makes it a more festive atmosphere.

Exactly. I'm not out in nature to listen to music, I'm there to listen to nature. If someone needs to, earbuds are the way to go. Those that blast music are Jerry arseholes.

My first car stereo was a Sony boom box. Sat in the middle of the bench seat of my 70 Chevelle plugged into the cigarette lighter. It was a pretty crappy boom box for a Sony. Took it with me driving van delivering candy and cigarettes. I can remember almost leaving it on top of the roof of the car after work. I backed out and heard it rocking back an forth on the roof.

I feel like I share this one constantly:

Of course the lifty who is under the drone of the bullwheel has every right to drown it out, out on the trails…..different story. But freedom isn’t free I guess.

At Belleayre after the last storm we pushed off from the summit passed a crew with someone with a speaker dangling from their waist. It was blaring rap music with lyrics I can’t even post here, so we scooted ahead. Peanut and I made our way down the first pitch of Onondaga and waited for mom in the safe zone at the dogleg. The person, who is not even a kid, he’s a young man old enough to know better, comes down and stops right next to us like nothing is going on. I’m standing there with a child in a hulahoop listening to someone shout about f@€%ing b!+ches p@$$ie$. All he can say is “Dude that was so sick” referring to the congested ice luge we somehow just navigated. I was incensed. We met up with mom and before we pushed off I calmly asked if he had any music without curse words. He said “Yes” so I said, “You should play that instead, especially when there are kids around” and then skied away. Now I’m not a violent person but I did think saying something could potentially lead to a fistfight situation. I was prepared. Maybe this wouldn’t be a problem if having your teeth knocked out was a possible consequence.

Nothing says "stick it to the man" or "I'm being oppressed" like skiing. On a weekday. Good that you kept your cool--I'm not sure beating someone in front of your daughter to protect her from cursing would send the intended message ;-)

If my dad was still around and he had those things there would most definitely be some Neil Diamond blaring out of them.
One year my neighbor got a SPAC membership as a job perk (instead of like a living wage) which meant we could all get good tickets before the public sale. I broke my credit card getting shows like Neil Young and Ziggy Marley etc. We all passed on Neil Diamond. Then I went to Milo Jr's Little League game and all the single moms were squirming in the bleachers talking about Neil Diamond. Total market misjudgment on my part.
