Plattekill Conditions

Reaping the Whirlwind

The trails were not easy. At :58 I thought you were going into the woods!

Sorry we didn't meet.

I really wanted to ski the woods yesterday. I’ve been fighting off a respiratory virus for a week and a half. The night before I used my inhaler and took a bunch of vitamin supplements which had the side effect of keeping me awake all night long. I went to bed at 9:30 set my alarm for 3:30 and at 3 o’clock after not sleeping at all, decided to jump in my jeep and leave.

I skied as a zombie for half a day, and finally after getting a bit sloppy decided enough was enough before I got hurt.

I’m looking forward to meeting you at some point.

I have a comedic video to post later today. “Lost and found Oompa Loompa’s”

This all sounds familiar. I can never get to bed before 11, and these Catskill starts are early for me. :)

Jen K is a noted Plattekill regular. She hurt her knee in Utah and was skiing the trails because her doc told her so. I was thinking "it was so much less pressure on the knees in the trees." My only run on a groomer, North Face, was a lot of work!

Agreed Harvey, untracked in the woods was so much easier to ski than cut up on the trails. Until a last run down Plunge on toast legs my only “groomer” runs were 2x Plunge and 1x Twist, all while there was still untracked to be skied. Other than that it was woods, woods, woods. The density of the snow also helped speed control in the trees. What a fun day.

somewhat. the low angle glades off cat track were hard to get through. Steeper glades were better. Mountain has to be skiing real nice today after we churned everything up.

Does “groomer” mean something new? Plunge and Northface weren’t groomed. The greens and blues on the triple side and Bumps were groomed and probably Overlook but nothing else was

I guess I should have said "areas that weren't protected by the trees from wind."

I thought what Harvey meant was on map trails, that are often groomed. That’s why I said “groomers”, quotation marks noted. There were no groomers yesterday!

skiers left on both plunge and freefall was awesome.
That would qualify as an area that was more protected from wind. Every time we popped out any of the front four, we stayed skiers left.
