We left our place in Newburgh at 6:15, roads were slick but we motored onward, were early in the queue on Rte. 28.
Arrived at Platty early, we weren't first chair but really close. First three runs were Ridge Run, Northface and Freefall. It started to get choppy so we decided it was time to hit the woods.
The rest of the morning and most of the day it was Overlook to Cat Track and dropping into the woods.
It was classic Platty. Run after run the woods were skiing fantastic. Every run, fresh thick buttery snow.
As much as Harvey rightfully and heartily talks up Plattekill on the NY Ski Blog, I don't think the broader ski community really understands what a stellar experience skiing here can be.
The glades have the perfect pitch, they hold the snow incredibly well, and there is literally line after line after line to be taken. Its limitless how many lines you can find.
We've skied the best of the best when it comes to glades in both NY and Vermont. Shake a little snow on the Catskills, and Platty comes alive and will give the best of the best a run for the money when it comes to glades skiing.
Part of me doesn't even want to type this for fear of the secret getting out, but at the same time, I have to let people know that some of the most amazing skiing on the east coast is right here in the Catskill Mountains. Right in the back yard of those of us living downstate!
Milo and I having beers and a waffle on the deck after an amazing day of Ski Plattekill!!!
