Park City Ski Patrol Strike

An interesting thing should mention, I started posting here just before the new lifts and other upgrades were implemented. I was all about it. The fast chairs, the snowmaking and whatever else. I was a cheerleader for the ski area with anyone I talked to and I still support them for most of the decisions they’ve made. I’ve never been one to expect them to cater to me or you know “the local ski culture”. It’s a business, bottom line so I’m not sour at all but it’s time to move on. I love skiing, I always will but I’ve spent so many years hyper focused on it. It was my identity for a long time. It’s how I saw value in myself when I didn’t believe I had much else to offer this world. It’s been my therapist and my savior but it’s also held me back from having new and different experiences. So, it’s kind of a blessing in disguise that the new Snowbowl experience isn’t something I want to partake in anymore. The timing is right.

Anyways, wtf was my original point? Oh yeah, I probably agree with some of you (posters on this board) more than ever that there’s a lot of value having mom and pop type ski areas around and there’s beauty in simplicity.

Harvs B-Day Plattekill post looked so freaking good to me. It looked peaceful, I don’t think anyone would say that about a powder day at a major Vail or Altera ski area.

I get it. The madness near the lodge at Mt van Ho.... you get out on the old trails, you got the place to yourself.

It's only for subscribers for a few more days but Stuart's podcast on Storm Skiing Journal with the Pres. of the national union that includes the Park City patrol union is very good. Max Magill started as a Canyons patroller ten years ago, just before Vail Resorts bought PC and combined the two patrol units. Max provided a complete timeline for the key dates as negotiations went on from March through mid-December 2024. Also insight to efforts made by VR in the early days before the first combined vote related to having all PC/Canyons patrollers in a union.
It’s open access. Max Magill went to SUNY Plattsburg and studied this.
Sounds like mighta been more fun than what I studied at SUNY Potsdam but we also did many expeditions in the nearby Adirondacks...
