Park City Ski Patrol Strike

Last paragraph;

“If it gets so bad,” she said, “we won’t buy a pass and will start backcountry skiing as our primary way to ski.”

I think a lot of this is happening. People are either looking at backcountry or giving up on skiing all together and looking for other activities to get them through the winter.
I'm one of those people. Next year I'll treat myself and my daughter to something cool but other than that..... well I won't be a pass holder anymore.

There’s been quite a few different uphillers at Song every time I’ve been there and I parked next to a dang split boarder Thursday.

And there’s this.

RA, Is the Snowbowl corporate owned or just getting too popular for its own good?
It’s corporate but not owned by the big players. It’s MCP, a part of Coleman’s misfit ski area group. The investments have paid off, it’s hugely successful. It gets extremely crowded. You have to get going from my place at 7:15 to beat the traffic. I’d then sit in the car for a while before posting up on the line. The new lifts don’t like wet weather unfortunately so a lot of powder days there’s only one or two lifts that are any good for lapping. Sometimes both big lifts are down and after a few years of that and hour long lines I just don’t see any value investing my own money or time there. The last two seasons I skied more in April than the rest of the season. It gets quiet and you can finally ski the way that’s actually fun. Being on guard all the time on busy ski runs just sucks imo. I’d rather go ride or go on a walk about in the desert.

The amount of collisions on that mountain are insane. The patrol there is pretty bad ass at running wrecks.

An interesting thing should mention, I started posting here just before the new lifts and other upgrades were implemented. I was all about it. The fast chairs, the snowmaking and whatever else. I was a cheerleader for the ski area with anyone I talked to and I still support them for most of the decisions they’ve made. I’ve never been one to expect them to cater to me or you know “the local ski culture”. It’s a business, bottom line so I’m not sour at all but it’s time to move on. I love skiing, I always will but I’ve spent so many years hyper focused on it. It was my identity for a long time. It’s how I saw value in myself when I didn’t believe I had much else to offer this world. It’s been my therapist and my savior but it’s also held me back from having new and different experiences. So, it’s kind of a blessing in disguise that the new Snowbowl experience isn’t something I want to partake in anymore. The timing is right.

Anyways, wtf was my original point? Oh yeah, I probably agree with some of you (posters on this board) more than ever that there’s a lot of value having mom and pop type ski areas around and there’s beauty in simplicity.

Harvs B-Day Plattekill post looked so freaking good to me. It looked peaceful, I don’t think anyone would say that about a powder day at a major Vail or Altera ski area.
