ORDA's Biggest Mistakes

Yeah, but what is a “hold-and-haul sewer arrangement”?

There was discussion of this in this article from a couple weeks ago:

Bayse and Walden, who attended Thursday’s board meeting at which the MOU was adopted, made no indication that they supported the vote. Walden said the authority will be incurring tens of thousands of dollars in extra costs because it will have to haul wastewater from 6,000-gallon holding tanks to a treatment plant, presumably in Queensbury, because the town sewer system project is behind schedule. She told the board the financial burden to ORDA is an estimated $100,000 to $200,000 with no known completion date for the municipal sewer system.

‘Hold and haul’

The “hold and haul” plan represents Plan C. Plan B, holding waste in 50,000-gallon tanks, was ruled out because of ground contamination around the bigger tanks and the need for the state to investigate the cause, which Williams indicated may be a petroleum spill.

The result of the alternative disposal program to get rid of the new lodge’s wastewater, involving 6,000-gallon tanks, means many more hauling trips. The lodge, 11,260 square feet, is expected to draw guests who will generate thousands of gallons of wastewater daily.

There was a round of coverage from last January that ORDA was gonna build an on-site septic system because it was known then that the town sewer wouldn't be ready. I can't find any coverage between then and November on why that didn't work out as planned, but I think it's what's referred to above as Plan B.

In any case, the county did come up with the money awhile back to fill the funding gap for the wastewater project, so hopefully this all gets resolved eventually.

The article today was basically a copy of the previous article.

The Hold and Haul (ORDA will have a septic company pump the tank, and take it to the Town of Queensbury Sewage Treatment Plant), is a temporary fix until the Sewer System is online

The Lodge will open when the restaurant receives their liquor license for that premises. Sean, the Chef/Owner/Operator of the restaurant is optimistic for a second week of December opening. And, if the weather cooperates, The Hudson chair will be open servicing Oak Ridge, Moxham, Half and Half, and skiers left of the Village Slope.

I don't know the exact timeline for the Sewer System to be online, but I think they are targeting mid-December, so maybe the stars will align and the Sewer System and the Lodge open the same weekend 🤠

Also, just an FYI, The Loon (FKA) OP Frederick's, is opening in the Basil and Wicks property this Friday, and will be open Thursday-Sunday to start. The Loon property, on Loon Lake, is undergoing renovations, so they moved over to North Creek👍

So Cork a question I have , why haul to Queensbury when they have a large capacity sewer system on the mountain?

Their (Gore) system is not set up to receive "outside" discharge, whereas Queensbury's system is deisgned to accept "outside" discharge, and that's where all of the local Septic Companies that pump tanks go to drop off.

Queensbury does not have a wastewater treatment plant. It would either have to go to Glens Falls or Lake George. My money would be on Glens Falls.
