NY Lost Ski Areas

It's a great read iha e

Lost ski areas of the Southern Adirondacks is a great read. Wanted a couple years ago really enjoyed it I also have the northern Adirondack version too. I also bought a book last year which is a history of Snow ridge which was the closest hill to where I grew up as a kid in New Hartford New York . Really cool book can't remember the title now .
White Magic : by Bronny Davis very cool read with lots o pics

The first or second year I was skiing, my friends and I drove to Cortina. My friends talked them into letting us ski on the nordic skis we brought. I fell every 50 feet or so.

Too bad Cortina couldn't co-exist as a feeder hill. In Saranac Lake, we have Mount Pisgah, a municipally owned hill that's a perfect alpine starter hill. 330 feet of vert; a day pass is $25.00. I might have to take a lesson there.

Dewey Mt nordic, also municipally owned. Season pass is a whopping $55.00.

I remember skiing there after Hunter got 3'.. Everyone and their grandmother was going to Hunter. The line to get in started by the nightclub/Chinese restaurant.. We turned around and went to Cortina...They didn't get 3ft but we still had a great time with no crowds... Sheep will be sheep.. I'm glad i saw the light..

I skied there once in 93 or 94. Reminded me a bit of the southern side of West Mountain. Especially the way you came off the lift and skied to the right and then looped back to the base.

Anybody skied Alpine Meadows in Greenfield NY in the 80's ?
Skied it once as a little kid, barely remember. Not very steeps, lots of t-bars. Went under because they didn't own all the land. They wanted to buy it all up and modernize, but it never happened. Too bad, it would've been a good family mountain. Also, the summit warming hut had a wooden cutout of Snoopy as flying ace on the top. That I did remember!
