New Gore Trail

Run the AE2 and close the gondola. Then you never need to do Ruby.

There you go again.

If one of the two lifts run, it's going to be the gondola every time, due to it being a more comfortable ride and having better summit access. Otherwise it takes 3 lifts to access Topridge or Straightbrook terrain. I'm not aware of any resort that closes an enclosed lift in favor of an open air one unless it's due to maintenance or weather.

I'd also be willing to swap the North Quad for Burnt Ridge, which serves more terrain.

I can't wait to ski it. Wasn't willing to do what it took today.

There is one major issue however. The portion shared with Pipeline, Paradox, and Eagle's nest need to be significantly widened. You have a 60 foot wide trail that narrows down to like 20. This part had bad conditions.

The trail seems quite popular and will mean the Burnt Ridge Quad has higher ridership. This is a double edged sword. More popular is good, because it incentivizes open the lift and terrain earlier in the season. However, it means the lift can be expected to have a line at peak times. They need to replace the RFID gates with one that has 4 slots rather than 2, and direct the line to fill chairs when it's crowded.

Of course when you turn a narrow road (Barkeater) into a four lane highway, you get congestion elsewhere. Was anyone expecting something else?

Sno and X you guys have been screaming for this trail forever, I call for a short respite from complaints, about consequences you didn't foresee.

Long term, there is no such thing as "taking a load off" the base. Call a spade a spade, you just increased capacity, with all that entails.

I skied it on Saturday and really liked it despite the millions of people over there. I skied today boo hoo that Burnt Ridge was closed. Lies with perfect cord first thing and the line under the Straightbrook chair and my fave of the day, Dark Side Glade!. There is plenty open to have fun on. There is a worker shortage, notice they are still looking for help, Wednesday or Thursday I think it spins again...go then. Great to ski with you today Harv

I foolishly assumed they had already widened them. Nope. They need to do it this summer. The 60 foot width should be maintained the whole way down, not just on the new portion.

I'm allowed to have an opinion on how the new trail is working out. Same with X.

After all these expansions, Gore still gets around 210,000 skier visits a year. This should be increased to around 300,000 which would help benefit the surrounding area. I think having two base areas, instead of one base area and one forgotten outpost with extremely inconsistent lift operations would be an improvement.

Longtime lurker, second-time poster here.

Took a run down Backwoods on Saturday. Absolutely loved the pitch, views, and width (felt much more intimate than some of the newer trails Gore has cut in recent years). My only quibble is with the serpentine section that comes midway through -- trail makes a hard left then a hard right in a way that felt jarring and artificial, didn't seem necessary given the pitch, would have loved to keep ripping straight down it. Curious if others agree or have thoughts on why they would cut it this way (limit speed before the intersection? different aesthetic preferences?)

Agree with other posters on the narrowness/traffic issue on Eagle's Nest/Paradox/Pipeline, but hopefully they resolve that in the near future.

In any case, very glad to ski the new terrain and have additional reason to ski Burnt Ridge.

What increased capacity? Is Gore all of a sudden going to add visits? That answer is no.
Can't take the load off the base if the BRQ opens the end of January.

Maybe if Gore increased the number of visits, BRQ might be opened sooner in the season and remain open midweek.

narrow trails tend to hold onto the snow. the trees help shield the snow from the wind. i applaud gore for not cutting a four lane highway down the middle of those glades. enjoy the trail and slow down where appropriate.
