New Gear for this Season

Interested in review on the carbon’s, I’ve stayed away from them being 210lbs. But the weight factor has been tempting.

MC2 is apparently not a K2 fan, or perhaps the return to the dark side. I must admit, I test drove a pair of Mindbender TIs, and found them wholly unremrkable. I have high hopes for the carbon verson, and the price was right, so there you are.

I am not. I feel like the K2s I have tried recently ski long & feel dead.

I like nimbleness & playfulness in a ski & I don’t get that feeling from K2.

The thumbs down was mostly for the alpine bindings, though.

Tell all. :)
Well, you and MC2 may remember the Blogger Summit events, where I skied locked down at the resort and freeheel on the BC days. This has been the pattern for a long time, so should be no surprise. If I were to freeheel at the resort, that would require a switch to NTN, which quite honestly, is not affordable, and also difficult to get here in Ontario. Last season, there was one shop in the entire province that committed to bringing in NTN boots and then Scarpa did not ship any tele boots to Canada. Even the rep was embarrassed (I know her). Crispi is pretty much unavailable in this country. So the only option is buying used or buying at full retail from American shops in USD, F that. So I will stick with duckbill in the BC but go with the simpler and cheaper alpine alternative for the lift-served days.

I haven’t skied on K2’s since 1997. I loved those ElCaminos but they were pretty darn destroyed after one season. I was young and did a lot of dumb (but really fun) shit.

I have to get new alpine boots. The toe and heel pieces crucial for safe binding contact were wore the f out. I’ve been putting this off for a few years. I’ve used Technica boots for the last 20 years. They fit so well I would just grab a 26.5 right off the shelf for purchase. I guess a few years ago they changed their molds. I’ve had bad boots before and I can’t do that ever again. I just can’t torture my feet anymore and if it hurts I won’t ski so the whole thing has me a little stressed out.

I also need touring gear but I don’t feel like spending that kind of money so I’ll probably be out from skiing the backcountry this season. Right now I’d rather buy a new dirt jump bike and spend more time in the desert.

I remember seeing this K2 Performers video and then lusting over those El Caminos.

Ahhh the 90’s.

You might try Ebay. I’ve found Dallbellos to fit me really well. Iv’e lucked out with used boots a couple times. It’s amazing that some people use there equipment a few times and throw it in the closet. My feet are average so little tweaking.

I tried different used boots at the local gear swap store and nothing felt right. Ski boots for myself now need to be perfect or I’m not skiing.
I can’t beat my feet up anymore.
