Most Underrated Ski Towns

Franconia/Sugar Hill/Bethlehem/Littleton area of NH is pretty sweet.

North of the notch and the Loon/Waterville crowds. Obviously Cannon, but also Bretton Woods, Burke, easy shot to Jay. Access to not just FNSP/Lafayette Ridge but also Presidentials.

Incredible views all around, good food and beer scene. Local little mountain Mt Eustis reopened in Littleton.

Scandal Update:

The coldest spot in the nation merely refers to the coldest spot with a weather station.

I'm sure the summit of Marcy is often colder than Saranac Lake.

There's the coldest spot in the nation with a weather station (often Mount Washington) and the coldest inhabited town or city. Saranac Lake often makes headlines as the freezer of the northeast so it's interesting to learn that the claim may be bogus!

George Carlin as the Hippy Dippy Weatherman:
"Temperature at the airport is 88 degrees, which is stupid, man, cause I don't know anybody who lives at the airport. "

It's not bogus. Like any data you have to understand what it is really telling you.

It's bogus because Saranac Lake does not have an official or unofficial weather station. Lake Clear does. And that is where the data comes from, not Saranac Lake.

Pretty sure that Mt Washington NH is colder than both.

If you want to be reeeeally specific, Adirondack Regional Airport list their address as 96 Airport Road, Saranac Lake. Prolly more technically speaking, in the town of Harrietstown rather than village of Saranac Lake. 7 miles from the house I'm hoping to buy.

Lake Clear is also in the town of Harrietstown.
