ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

I bring food with me. Pee when you get gas.
If you have a 350 mile range EV, going 70 mph is 5 hours of driving.

I don't believe you drive for 22 hours straight. And if you really do, a forced break for 20 - 30 minutes every 5 hours might not be a bad thing

Last time I drove straight through was 2 years ago. If by myself I leave Queensbury around 6pm and drive to the Va/NC border around 10 hours. Take a Power Nap in the truck for a couple hours and drive 12 hours to Sarasota. If wife is with me as she will be tomorrow (we are heading home), we stop in Fredericksburg Va for the night.

Counterintuitively, I almost think the longer 6+ hour drives are less of an issue with EVs as opposed to the 4 - 6 hour drives. I mostly ski the under 3 hour away Cats these days, which is well within the 310 mile range of my Y (new ones have a bit more), but I used to do the 5 hour Brooklyn to Killington run on Fridays or Thursdays after work, often getting into town after 10 PM. Having to stop for an extra 20 minutes would mean getting on the lift 20 minutes later the next morning. Technically Killington is 263 miles from house, but with the hills and if it's extremely cold out it would be close.

Last year I drove up to Jay and back, but at that distance I broke up the trip. Having to charge an EV wouldn't have really made any difference, and honestly having FSD would have made it much easier.

Satisfy my curiosity here. My trip from NY to Fla is 1420 miles it takes me 22 hours driving straight through. That includes fuel stops. How long would it take me in your EVs including charging time?
I did LI to Huntsville 948 miles each way. I will try to find my spreadsheet but I think we drove 10 hours a day. Two stops a day to charge. We would time for lunch and dinner. Like 45-55 minutes. A Tesla would be faster probably due to smaller battery.

My main point to anyone who has concerns about charge times is that for most evs it will easily tie to res too times for meals in reasonable day. My car is really fun to drive but I am happy to get out for 40 minutes 4-5 hours in. Tie that to meal times and you are not missing anything. I think the only case this doesn’t apply is if someone has an rv and is tag team driving in which case you may have room to chill and move around really without stopping other than gas. But I don’t know because I have never been in an rv.

And we were mostly going 70-75. Because there are trucks on 81 we were getting better range than driving 68 due to aero.

So I would pull up to a spot with a restaurant and charge away.

Bonus one night we camped in the car on way down.

And shorter distance - Montreal to Li about 6-7 of driving was able to with one stop each way (again meal times) in Queensbury Ny about halfway. I have a home charger so left at 100 percent and then hotel had slow charger that filled her up while I snores.

For me personally I would not to travel this way. But if you love to travel this way 10 hours without stop, no I don’t think current e v s are for u.
