ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

The electrician who specializes in installing and maintaining solar panels on roofs has been at our house lately dealing with squirrel damage. He has a Ford Lightning. Got a used fleet Lightning. He loves it.

I was working in the yard and noticed the hood was up. When he does that at work sites, often people assume the truck has a problem. :)

I was told it is called a frunk

This thread debates the pros & cons of vehicles ICE vs electric.
I charged two 40V lithium batteries twice while weedwacking while the weeds were not as tough as they’re gonna get.

It's a nasty job. Woulda been worse if I didn’t have to wait for the batteries to charge & could sit and have cold refreshment🍺. Gas weedwackers are worse.
Agreed. Made the switch to an electric weedwhacker 2 years ago and never looked back. High power, quiet, no smell...awesome!

I use electric but pull out the gas powered Wacker when I want more power. They are nice and quiet but seem a big skimpy on the rpms

My son got ne a new DeWalt but it seems unbalanced and awkward, triggers my tendonitis, so I went back to the old Homelite. You'da thunk we learnt something about ergonomics in 25 years...

Really noxious too, my town banned them and the leaf blowers. The landscapper grumbled to me for 30 minutes and yet he seems to be doing just fine :P

That's the wave of the future. 2stroke bikes and outboards have been banned for 20 years. There's current legislation to ban the sale of all gas powered lawn equipment in NY. A lot of localities have banned or limited the use of gas leaf blowers. Some of that is about noise, but apparently even occasional use of a 2 stroke generates more air pollution than your typical Hellcat does in a year. 4 strokes are better but they're going away eventually too.

Not in my lifetime. Maybe in certain areas of NY, but not up this way. Nope.

The day someone gets to tell me what color my mailbox can be, they can kiss my ass. LoL

You should have a pink mailbox.

I’ve been a professional landscape caretaker for 35 years. Switched to electric 15 years ago. Not going back to gas.

My daily whacker is a Stihl KMA 130R Kombi head powered by an AR 3000 backpack battery.

I switch heads as needed, depending on what I’m cutting. Today I’m alternating between the whacker, hedger and PolyCut head. I have the reciprocator, saw blade and ninja star at home.

To clean up, I use the BGA 200 blower and if I run down the backpack I use the AP series batteries in a waist belt while it’s charging. I can whack it all day with this setup if I wanted to but I rarely go more than four hours.

I only stop at the gas station to pick up a Fosters oil can on the ride home.
