ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

Battery technology just gets better every year. Some day your gas powered chainsaw will gather dust next to your 120v drill.

I'm not saying I won't use them, because I do. I bought a battery powered trim chainsaw w/ extension pole to carry along side my Husky Farm Boss while I'm out in the woods cutting trails. The little thing works GREAT for what it's intended to do. It also works awesome for cutting out shooting lanes for our deer stands.

I take issue with these silly bans. People should be able to choose whatever tools they want to use. Too me, the "banning" mentality causes major problems within communities. I chose a battery powered chainsaw because it' super useful. I won't be cutting firewood all day wit the thing, but that's not what it's designed for. They definitely make saws for that purpose but I'm just not there yet. I love the sound and smell of 2 stroke! There are 2 things a person will hear around my houose on the daily. Chainsaws and gunfire.

Already happening at my place. I have a Stihl Farm Boss that I use as a backup on take downs and it barely gets used. I start and run it a couple times each year just to keep it going. People think electric saws are toys but they’re certainly not especially since there’s no clutch.

I see this thread is broadening it's scope beyond cars.

I've got battery operated weed whacker and hedge trimmer.

I went for gas on the leaf blower. We've got 9000 feet of trail, so I wanted a backpack blower. The Stihl is 21 pounds and the EGO electric was 35 pounds. The gas goes twice as long. I "heard" you can't get service for the EGO.

California started banning gas powered stuff first. I lived in Pasadena in the late 50s and the air pollution was unbearable a lot of days. I think most states have only banned the sale of new stuff, but California actually banned the use of some of the old stuff. After my experience living there I think CA might be on the right track.

If you don't ban selling new gas powered tools you never get good battery tools.

I will miss the smell of two stroke in the morning
