EV's are still brand new.

Electric golf carts have been around for a long time.
There used to be electric trolleys in cities with the juice coming down from the overhead wires. We had a mini electric train as kids. And dad rode the electric commuter into the big apple.

There are places & applications where an ev is most useful.
Some places and applications they aren’t.

There is no political support for increasing any fuel taxes to keep up with the cost of roads.
EVs will always make more revenue than cost for electric companies. Theoretical, some of that added revenue could be taxed to replace lost gasoline taxes, but for now that money goes to reduce electric bills.

It's funny that the govt provides incentive to buy an EV and then taxes it too.

Will they tax hybrids? Hypermiling? Bike riding?

According to his logs, the Model 3 RWD clocked in at 15 cents per mile in fuel and maintenance. The Bolt? Slightly worse. But even those figures paled next to his dearly departed Corolla, which, once depreciation was factored in, ran just 20 cents per mile overall. The Tesla ballooned to 34 cents. That’s not a minor difference.

This came across my feed too. Dumb clickbait article by a site for performance tuning. Obviously a 25 year old car is going to have no depreciation, it's 25 years old! Secondly his estimate of maintenance of $40/year or whatever,? Absolute BS. Our extremely well maintained '03 V6 Camry with "only" 150k miles is constantly in the shop. And that is arguably the most reliable car ever made.

I learned something from @TonyC at FTO. He told me his Tesla works out to about 30mpg. That really surprised me. I just assumed it was cheaper. For him it works out great because he's got free charging for life (of the car).

He also told me that it's MUCH cheaper to charge at home, so that impacts the math.

You know it's OK to admit that you bought it because you wanted it, or whatever the reason.
