HVAC: What's best for cold climates?

Buddy of mine is coming over this week to give me a quote for heat pump, splits, etc. I'll share what info he gives me, and look forward to any/all comments.

Does anyone know if there's money available/tax break for converting to electric heat pumps? Certainly not necessary for me to install, but if there is, I'd be foolish not to look into it.
The Feds are allowing a tax credit of 30% of the cost including labor up to a dollar limit of $2000 in one year. Maybe you buddy can drag the billing so $2000 hits in 2023 and 2024 if your install goes beyond the limits. Your local power company might have some rebates also.

  • $2,000 per year for qualified heat pumps, biomass stoves or biomass boilers.
If it comes down to split system. But two smaller ones. One this year and one next and get the 2k both years

Who's got propane? Did you bury your tank?

Pros and cons to burying? The 1000 gallon is pretty big and ugly.

Thanks for that X. It makes it sound like the main downside is the cost of installation.

There's a big excavator on site now, so I'm guessing it's probably not too much extra to do the digging now.

They don’t have to be ugly.
