Hometown USA: Glens Falls, NY

Most of Upstate is a zero opportunity zone since the demise of both the farm economy and industry. It's sad what has happened here in the last 50 years.

While it is sad to see the decline in farming, and blue collar work in general, I'd say with the amount of people working from home these days the zero opportunity thingE doesn't hold water.,
Hamilton County.
That's where I'd be. Speculator. Or jump to Fulton County and hit Northville.

There some truth to that. I worked from home for 20 years, and I never liked it, but it was the only way I could avoid moving to some unaffordable ctiy. WFH is just one more bad thing about the pandemic.

Not that I disagree with you because there's no way I could work from home, but it does work for some. I know myself enough that I'd be puttering around with my stuff more than work stuff. LOL

Albeit when I do retire I will most likely still buy cars but I'll be an independent contractor and not an employee.

Glens Falls is not a bad place. I thought about living up there at one point. Saratoga is nice but not my style. Queensbury is a nice spot. It is colder than many spots. The cold air rolls off the high peaks and settles in Glens Falls.
Were you a dirt bag over at Big Sky?

Lots of diversity in the land of upstate New York. It’s sustainable too as there is no shortage of H2O. If ya can deal with the taxes it’s an amazing place. The Haudenosaunee found it nice.

I feel the same way. The horse scene is weird to me and I like that Glens Falls is tucked up against the hills and the river. I have a high tolerance for grit. Plus the two are close enough. I'd rather be 5 mins to skiing and 25 mins to fancy dinner than vice versa.

I love the cold. And all the White Pines.

No, I wish. I had passes there in the past but just a family guy in Bozeman now. This whole area continues to become more and more $.

Thank you all for the feedback. Much appreciated. I have a job lined up and it's not WFH so we can't go too far into the woods, though I'd like that. One day would love to have a camp in NC or by WF.

It IS perfect , we too are considering Queensbury . Have been vacationing summer and winter near there for years . Your rationale is absolutely on target . You will NOT reqret it at all. .

Hit me up if you do it! Will be eager to make some friends, especially with those who like to shred.

That's the hardest part... not knowing how it will work out from a social perspective. It's hard to meet people when you are parenting and working all the time. Out west I feel like it's easier because most people move out here with similar perspective and interests. But I like diversity too.

That would be the least of my worries. You'll meet plenty of people through your kids activities, neighborhood, this site, and church or other civic groups.

I appreciate this, living in a place where Water Rights and irrigation are the cornerstone of human development.

The tax situation is eye opening. In Montana we pay a fraction and seem to have much better services, schools, infrastructure, etc. Don't want to start a political debate but there is definitely a WTF element here.

I need to read up on my Iroquois lore and history.
