Greek Peak Conditions

Did the Masters race at Greek today. This is sort of a conditions/trip report. Only skied three trails-Odyssey (race hill), Illiad, and Elysian Fields. All were firm, but very edgeable with sharp skis. Odyssey was perfect for racing-we had almost 60 racers, and it really held up well. Fun and decently long slope to race on! A few observations-Chair 1 seemed to be running well in contrast to previous years where it seemed to stop all the time. Surprisingly, 1a (carpet load quad) really isn't much faster-the rope speeds are just about the same. Crowds weren't too bad on the slopes, although a lot of people in the lodge because of the cold wind. No heat in the main lodge-we were told it had been out for three days. One of these days, I'd like to ski the whole hill (haven't done that since the '80's) but it's a good 2 hour ride. RFID scanners seemed to work well-not many holds in the line due to glitches.

Did anyone hit Trojan this weekend? I am wondering how icy the top part is after last weekend's rain.

Top was fine second drop was icy in middle as usual. Greek skied nice this weekend, Saturday was real good as the sun softened thing's up, sent most of day off trail. Sunday temps were similar but cloudy and kept a little harder, good carving conditions. Very little traffic Sunday, think everyone was out Saturday looking for some sunshine.

It was busy at 4&5 the whole time I was there. I stayed off groomers all day, just to many people. Safer for me and them.
I go early, and was gone by noon. There were no lift lines at the quad or chair 1. I have been super impressed with how GP has managed the crowds this year and am loving the pass scanner people! Some of them are having some real fun with the scanners- under the leg, over the shoulder, lounging in the snow. It beats the heck out of the gates, when I had a 50% success ratio.

Which glades do they make snow on? From their website:

How Much Snow Can We Make?

On a cold night, with all systems firing, Greek Peak can produce up to several feet of snow in key areas. We focus on high-traffic zones first, like:

  • Beginner areas.
  • Popular intermediate runs.
  • Main routes to lifts.
Once those are covered, we move to other trails and freshen up glades and expert runs where possible.
